WILL YOU WAKE ME UP WHEN I’M DEAD?

Will you wake me up when I’m dead?
By the time the life in me has been drained,
And I am just an empty vessel, will you wake me up?
I’m not saying I am going to die at the moment,
But sometimes I wonder if you care for my tiny quirks.
When life shipwrecks my world, and I lose sight of myself,
Will you care enough to shake me back to reality?
When I no longer find meaning in my life,
Will you play a slideshow of my accomplishments,
And remind me that my existence makes a difference?
When I wake up old and frail with Alzheimer’s,
Forgetting who I am, who you are, or what we are,
Will you stay by my side and remind me?
I’m not forcing you into a commitment.
I just need to know that you care about all of me.
So before I can say “Yes” to your proposal, I need to know:
Will you wake me up when I’m dead?
